THE REC ROOM

THE REC ROOM

Community has been at the core of The Rec Room.

  Manawatu Feilding Business Rec Room

The Rec Room set out on the path less travelled, carved an unmatched culture and vowed to never be a cookie cutter business who used ‘community’ as a buzzword. Their vision is providing a functional facility that uses an inclusive and supportive family culture and to bring a balance to the physical, spiritual, social, mental and emotional Hauora (well-being) of their members. The team has sponsored a multitude of local sports teams and have also given a large contribution to Manchester House. As well, their trainers are teaching active play in most of the primary schools, and take on countless students for mentorships, whether it be gateway through high schools, or placements for UCOL and university students. They have donated memberships to improve community wellness and support local fundraisers, schools, charities and sports events.

Adapting to the increasing interest in Olympic weightlifting, The Rec Room accepted hosting the 2021 North Island Weightlifting Championships. The team was approached by Weightlifting NZ to cater for the event which boasted over 160 athletes including two individuals preparing for their Olympic debut in Tokyo. The event was a great success becoming the biggest weightlifting event in New Zealand history and brought over 400 people to Feilding -a positive contribution to the local economy.

The Top of the Town event is a team scavenger hunt that is run across Feilding. This is the second year The Rec Room team ran the event which involves bringing members together while they problem solve, use logical thinking, complete exercise challenges, eating and drinking challenges, and team building activities for a day full of fun.

During the Covid lockdown period, they rolled out their contingency plan by being prepared and putting members needs at the forefront of their planning. To maintain the members' relationship with The Rec Room, they leased out all their gym gear that wasn’t going to be used while the gym was closed. They shared the equipment with over two hundred members to maintain their mental health and fitness during lockdown. Accompanying this, they ran eighteen video sessions per week, every week during lock down and uploaded them to a private members Facebook page. The trainers were running live fitness sessions, mental wellness sessions, Zoom personal training sessions and group sessions to ensure their clients were satisfied and healthy.
