Making sports more enjoyable and relatable for kids

PE participation in schools is decreasing while screen time and obesity are increasing and becoming a problem.

Footsteps Max Hopf and Matt Wells have invented an approach to tackle these problems by integrating sport and technology and taking it to all primary schools in the region.

Making sports more enjoyable and relatable for kids was overdue. Now in 2021, Matt and Max say that has all changed, and they are receiving amazing feedback.

Funded by Sport NZ to run the program in over 14 schools until Feb 2022. Over the last 12 months, they have been to many schools in the region, from Highbury to Mt. Biggs taking 1-2 hour sessions, training around 80 kids in 3-4 classes a day.

The duo are super excited to continue building relationships with schools and sporting organizations to help make every kid active!

“To create a sustainable program that is not only innovative but also transformative to the PE landscape in NZ, we are creating an online course for schools, teachers, parents and teacher aides to upskill. We want to be a part of the conversation and can see us advising school boards on choice of equipment as well as taking Footsteps to every school in the country.”
